COO is Back to School

Our COO traded his office chair for a university desk, and we all tagged along to mentor young developers at AUBG's hackathon. Spoiler: We found the next generation of tech talent.

It’s Never Too Late

It’s never too late to go back to university. This weekend, that’s exactly what our COO did—and honestly, we all kind of wished we were back in those student days where all-nighters were for hackathons, not production bugs.

We traveled to Blagoevgrad to be part of the AUBG hackathon, and let’s just say, stepping back onto a university campus made us all a little nostalgic. The energy, the optimism, the reckless confidence that you can build anything in 24 hours… we missed that.

Main Sponsor Status

Codexio was a main sponsor of the event, which came with some serious perks:

  • Front-row seats to incredible innovation
  • First dibs on meeting talented young developers
  • Unlimited coffee (okay, that one’s for everyone, but still)
  • A booth where we got to show off what we do
  • The privilege of mentoring teams who reminded us why we fell in love with coding in the first place

And of course, we brought Codi’s spirit with us. Even on the whiteboard, our office cat made an appearance—because no Codexio event is complete without him.

Mentoring the Next Generation

Here’s the thing about mentoring at a hackathon: you learn just as much as you teach.

We had the pleasure of working with many teams of young, motivated developers taking their first steps in Software Development. And wow, were they impressive.

What We Saw:

  • Fearless problem-solving - These students weren’t afraid to tackle problems we’d probably overthink
  • Creative solutions - Without years of “that’s not how we do it” baggage, they came up with approaches we never considered
  • Raw enthusiasm - The kind of energy that makes you remember why you started coding at 2 AM for fun
  • Team collaboration - Watching strangers become teams in hours reminded us what great teamwork looks like

Some of them had never been to a hackathon before. By the end of the weekend, they were shipping features, fixing bugs, and doing live demos like pros.

Our COO’s University Comeback

Our COO walking through AUBG’s campus was like watching someone revisit their natural habitat. The man was in his element—debugging with students, explaining architecture decisions on whiteboards, and somehow finding energy at 3 AM when the rest of us were running on fumes and coffee.

He might have graduated years ago, but put him in a room full of developers solving problems? It’s like he never left.

Overheard quote: “This is why I got into tech. Not the meetings—THIS.”

New Talents, New Friends

We’re very happy we got to be part of this event. And we’re not just saying that because we’re sponsors.

What We Found:

  • New talents - Students who code with the kind of passion that reminds you it’s possible to love your job
  • New friends - Turns out, bonding over debugging at midnight creates instant connections
  • Good relations - With the university, with other sponsors, with the organizing team
  • Inspiration - Seeing fresh perspectives on old problems is like a reset button for your brain

Some of these students will probably be working with us in the future. Others will start their own companies and maybe become our clients. Either way, we’re excited to see where they go.

The Hackathon Experience

If you’ve never been to a university hackathon, imagine:

  • 24-48 hours of continuous building, breaking, and rebuilding
  • Teams forming from strangers who met hours ago
  • Ideas evolving from “wouldn’t it be cool if…” to working prototypes
  • Pizza at midnight (a hackathon tradition that transcends time and space)
  • Demo presentations where adrenaline and caffeine fuel the best pitches
  • That moment when something finally works and the whole room cheers

It’s chaos. It’s inspiring. It’s exhausting. It’s exactly what tech should feel like.

Why We Keep Coming Back

Sponsoring events like this isn’t just good PR (though it is). It’s about staying connected to:

  • Where we came from
  • Why we do what we do
  • The next generation of developers who’ll push the industry forward
  • The pure, unfiltered joy of building something from nothing

Plus, our COO needed an excuse to feel young again. Mission accomplished.

Want to Join Us?

If you want to challenge your tech skills and maybe meet us at an event, we truly recommend you become part of next year’s hackathon.

Fair warning: We’ll ask you about your code at 2 AM. We’ll debate architecture decisions over cold pizza. And we’ll probably try to recruit you if you’re any good.

But hey, that’s part of the experience.

For Students:

Keep an eye on AUBG’s hackathon announcements. We’ll likely be back.

For Developers:

Want to mentor at events like this? Join our team and experience the fun of giving back to the community.

See you at the next hackathon!

P.S. - Our COO still hasn’t returned his temporary student ID. We’re working on it.
